GeoScenario was created in the Waterloo Intelligent Systems Engineering Lab (WISE Lab) as a part of the Autonomoose collaboration (GeoScenario1) and as part of WISE Automated Driving System and UW Moose (GeoScenario 2). Autonomoose was the first Canadian-built ADS to be tested on public roads in Canada in August 2018.

GeoScenario1 was implemented as part of WISE Sim, a custom simulator based on Unreal Engine 4. GeoScenario1 was used for scenario-based testing of Autonomoose and it continues to be used for testing WISE ADS today.

GeoScenario2 was developed to address the limitations of GeoScenario1 and to allow for specifying complex behaviors of simulated vehicles and pedestrians. GeoScenario2 is implemented in GeoScenario Server (see GitHub repository, project website), which supports standalone scenario execution, as well as, co-simulation with WISE Sim and Carla simulators.
